Vaughan completes Perth practice double

Brad Vaughan has edged Ryan Wood to complete a Friday practice double at the Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint.

Tickford Racing driver Vaughan, who paced Practice 1, beat home fellow Super2 rookie Wood by 0.1057s.

Vaughan jumped to the top late the 40-minute session, with Wood setting his best time in the dying moments.

Lochie Dalton was an impressive third in his Brad Jones Racing Commodore, with Kai Allen fourth ahead of Aaron Seton.

Super2 points leader Zak Best was sixth ahead of fellow Ford driver and Perth local Aaron Love.

Cameron McLeod was the fastest Super3 driver for the second straight session in 15th overall, 0.7763s down on Vaughan.

Dalton set the early pace with a 56.2992s before Walkinshaw Andretti United rookie Zach Bates fired to the top with a 56.0235s.

Wood made it a WAU one-two early doors with a 56.1813s, with Vaughan moving to third with a 56.2059s.

The 40-minute session ran without incident as drivers upped the pace.

Vaughan’s best time, a 55.6662s, proved 0.3447s quicker than his benchmark in the morning session.

Dolton was first into the 55s with a 55.9486s, with Eggleston Motorsport rookie Allen turning in a 55.7863s.

In the final runs, Vaughan jumped to first position with a 55.5662s, with Wood — who took pole for Race 2 in Newcastle — just 0.1s down.

The top 17 drivers was covered by 0.8461s, with Bates ultimately 11th all told after 40 minutes of running.

Cameron Crick was eighth ahead of milestone man Matt Chahda, who is celebrating his 50th Super2 round.

Zane Morse rounded out the top 10 ahead of Bates, who was 0.4573s off the pace.

Dunlop Series drivers will return on Saturday for ARMOR ALL Qualifying at 10:25am local time/12:25pm AEST.
