Super3 driver Brad Vaughan has been handed a grid penalty, and the car owner fined, over a testing breach.

Vaughan is part of this weekend’s Dunlop Series field in Perth.

He tested his #5 Ford Falcon FG racer at Wanneroo Raceway on Monday.

Vaughan was later found to have breached Rule D1.3.4 - DS3 Testing – Pre-Event Test Ban.

The rule stipulates "a Car cannot be driven at any Circuit at which an Event is scheduled to take place from 00.01 on the Saturday preceding the commencement of the Scheduled Event without the express written approval of the DS3 Category Manager, and then only for the purposes of publicity of the Event”.

Super3 competitors are subject to the same pre-event test ban rules to Super2 competitors.

The stewards report stated the competitors were not aware of Rule D1.3.4.

Per the report, the stewards "were satisfied that the breach was not deliberate but was a consequence of the competitor having failed to discharge his obligation to familiarise himself with the rules".

As a result, Vaughan will start Saturday’s first race from pit lane.

Car owner Michael Anderson has also been fined $10,000, of which $5000 is suspended until 31 December 2022, providing the competitor commits no further breach of Rule D1.3.4 prior to that date.

Vaughan was second quickest of Super3 runners, twice behind Kai Allen, in Friday’s two practice sessions.

Matt McLean and Declan Fraser paced the Super2 field.

Cars will return to the track for ARMOR ALL Qualifying at 2:00pm local time.

The 26-lap Race 1 will commence at 5:20pm local time.
