Feeney still driven to win Super2

Broc Feeney says he won’t let his looming main game debut distract him from chasing his maiden Dunlop Super2 Series title.

It was confirmed last month that Feeney will make the leap to the main game in 2022 with Red Bull Ampol Racing.

Feeney will partner Shane van Gisbergen in the all-conquering team, with the teenager replacing the retiring Jamie Whincup.

The announcement came after Feeney's impressive first three rounds of his 2021 Super2 campaign.

The 18-year-old turned heads at the Bathurst season-opener, defeating Triple Eight teammate Angelo Mouzouris to the Race 1 win.

The Gold Coast-born racer also dominated the back-to-back events in Townsville.

Feeney will also race in this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000 alongside 2005 Supercars champion Russell Ingall.

Though his future is secure with Triple Eight, Feeney isn’t resting on his laurels.

"I've said from the start of the I want to win that championship," Feeney told Supercars.com.

"To put myself in the best spot to move up next year.

"Even though I’ve already got the drive next year, it probably gives me a little bit of extra motivation to push on and hopefully get a few more wins under our belts for the rest of the year.

"It will definitely cement that I did deserve this seat."

The first Townsville event saw Feeney clean sweep the weekend, with the teen topping all sessions and races at Reid Park.

He backed it up the following weekend, recording his third straight win and a second-place finish, putting him 50 points ahead of nearest contender Zak Best.

Feeney said his performances in North Queensland are what helped to affirm his progression to the main game.

"It's been a great year for me in Super2," he said.

"Townsville was awesome, and that's really helped to get the contract signed a little bit earlier than I probably expected.

"But Super2 is 100 per cent my focus and my biggest goal this year.

"To be honest, I'm not even thinking about 2022 yet, my whole focus is on winning the Super2 Series and doing a good job with Russell at Bathurst."
