Thomas Randle has joined illustrious company in being crowned champion of the 2020 Dunlop Super2 Series.

Doubt had surrounded the status of the Super2 title race, with no certainty that the recent Bathurst round would be the last this year – nor that a series crown would definitively be awarded.

That has all been cleared up now, with Randle delivering MW Motorsport a record fourth Super2 title – and backing up the Nissan team’s 2019 efforts with Bryce Fullwood.

Discussions were held regarding the potential for further rounds; however due to border closures, COVID-19 restrictions in various states and the likelihood of associated quarantine periods for competitors, it was determined unviable to race on this year.

Randle finished in the top two in all seven races this season to keep nearest rival Will Brown at bay, taking one win at each round at Adelaide, Sydney Motorsport Park and Bathurst.

The 24-year-old now enters an exclusive club of Super2 title winners led by Mark Winterbottom, Scott McLaughlin and Cameron Waters.

Behind Randle in the standings was Image Racing teammates Brown and Jordan Boys, with Jayden Ojeda the best of the rookies in a superb fourth overall.

Supercars Chief Operating Officer Shane Howard said focus will now shift to the 2021 Dunlop Super2 Series, which is expected to have a full six-round program announced as part of the Repco Supercars Championship calendar.

“Unfortunately, given the current border closures between Queensland, NSW and Victoria it is not feasible to conduct further rounds of this year’s championship,” Howard said.

“As confirmed by Motorsport Australia in September, we can crown a champion and would like to congratulate Thomas for claiming this year’s title.

“We thank all competitors for their efforts under the most challenging circumstances this category has had to face in its 20-year history.

“We look forward to the opportunity of fulfilling all six championship rounds in 2021.”
