Chris Pither set the pace in Friday practice for Round 5 of the Dunlop Super2 Series at the RABBLE.club Sandown 500.

The Garry Rogers Motorsport driver was first into the 1:08s barrier, topping the timesheets in Practice 2 with a 1:08.8717s.

Pither bounced back from finishing Practice 1 at the foot of the order, without a representative time.

He finished the day 0.0831 seconds clear of Paul Dumbrell on the combined times from the pair of 40-minute sessions.

Dumbrell was the only other driver in the 1:08s in his Eggleston Motorsport Commodore, with a 1:08.9548s.

The points leader's 1:09.2328s was the fastest in Practice 1.

Super2 teams are this weekend using Supercars' super-soft tyres, as a one-off switch for Sandown.

Macauley Jones was 0.1501s adrift in his Brad Jones Racing Holden in third, having gained three places from sixth in the morning.

MW Motorsport's Garry Jacobson was fourth and the only non-Commodore in the top five, having been 12th in the morning.

Brodie Kostecki was fifth-fastest, followed by Jacobson's MW team-mate Alex Rullo, Kurt Kostecki and Jack Smith.

Jake Kostecki was ninth for the day, having been responsible for one of the two red flags in Practice 1 when he beached his Commodore at Turn 10.

Dean Fiore rounded out the top 10 in the third MW Nissan, ahead of Shae Davies, lead rookie Dominic Storey and Will Brown.

Within the top 10, only Smith and the three Kosteckis are not on double duties in the PIRTEK Enduro Cup this weekend.

Davies, Storey and Brown were second, third and fourth in the morning but did not improve in the afternoon.

Brown and Bryce Fullwood, 21st fastest for Matt Stone Racing, are also contesting the Supercars enduros.

Ricky Capo finished the day 23rd in his Super2 debut with Kali Motorsport, 1.5899s off the pace set by Pither.

ARMOR ALL Qualifying will take place at 11:10am Saturday, followed by Race 1 at 3:15pm local time.
