A late Sandown lap has secured ARMOR ALL Pole Position for the opening race in the Dunlop Super2 Series for Chris Pither.
The Garry Rogers Motorsport driver took top spot after the chequered flag had flown, posting a 1:08.9517s to pip MW Motorsport's Garry Jacobson.
After a rain-hit morning in Melbourne, the session was run in all-but dry conditions.
Pither set the pace in Friday practice and continued that good form, leading Jacobson by 0.0390 seconds in a 15-minute session to set the grid for the first leg at Sandown.
Both drivers were in the heat of the battle throughout, with Pither second and Jacobson third before a last-lap frenzy.
Supercars' softer-compound tyre is being used by Super2 this weekend at Sandown.
Brodie Kostecki and Jacobson's MW Motorsport team-mate Dean Fiore will share the second row, Kostecki having led earlier in the session.
Series leader Paul Dumbrell also had a stint on top, but wasn't able to improve thereafter, ultimately taking fifth.
Fresh off two Supercars wildcard starts, Kurt Kostecki will share the third row with the two-time series winner.
Dumbrell's Eggleston Motorsport team-mate Will Brown bounced back from 13th in Friday practice to finish seventh alongside Jake Kostecki.
Holden driver Adam Marjoram and top rookie Thomas Randle rounded out a top 10 covered by 0.4949s.
Within that group, Pither, Jacobson, Fiore, Dumbrell and Brown are on double duty this weekend with Supercars' PIRTEK Enduro Cup opener.
Further down the order, Alex Rullo (12th), Macauley Jones (14th) and Bryce Fullwood (21st) are also contesting the main game enduros.
The opening 22-lap race starts at 3:15pm Saturday, followed by Races 2 on Sunday, as part of the RABBLE.club Sandown 500.
