The Grove junior took the points lead with victory in Saturday's twilight race.

It came after erstwhile leader Zak Best suffered a DNF following a run-in with a Super3 runner.

"It's going really well at the moment," Payne said.

"That qualy session, we went out on used tyres on the start and needed to find some time.

"We put greens on and it was pretty close, we managed to pull out a good lap, so I'm happy."

Everingham, who finished third on Saturday, set the early running on a 55.340s.

With three minutes remaining, Cameron Hill shot to the top on a 55.282s.

Everingham went even quicker, albeit by 0.062s, with Thomas Maxwell and Best jumping to second and fourth.

However, Payne went quickest of all, with the Kiwi clocking the first 54s lap of the weekend.

Declan Fraser demoted Best to sixth, with Angelo Mouzouris and Cameron Crick seventh and eighth.

Kai Allen scored Super3 honours and will start 13th.
