V8 Supercars Dunlop Series young gun and Darwin teen Bryce Fullwood returns to home territory this weekend, contesting the Improved Production, Commodore Cup and HQ class at the SKYCITY Triple Crown Darwin.

The Territorian will swap his usual Dunlop Series V8 Supercar for a Commodore Cup car this weekend, putting the VH Holden through its paces around his home Hidden Valley circuit.

This weekend will be valuable seat time for Fullwood, with his maiden Dunlop Series campaign resuming in three weeks time at the Castrol EDGE Townsville 400.

At 17 years old, Fullwood is one of the youngest in the Dunlop Series field, having made the brave leap from go-karts to V8 Supercars this year.

But the accomplished karter has the support of experienced hand Paul Morris to guide him through, with the 2014 Bathurst 1000 winner fielding Fullwood's entry out of his Paul Morris Motorsport stable this season.

"He's probably the most successful go-karter to come out of the Northern Territory," Morris told the Northern Territory's News of his prodigy's national and state karting championships.

"He's definitely got all the skills sets there to make it, given he's in the first year of a three-year apprenticeship.

"If skill level and determination have anything to do with it, he'll definitely make it in the [main game]."

Engineered by John Faulkner, Fullwood proved his natural pace when he recorded his best race result yet of 12th at Barbagallo - only his second race meeting in a V8 Supercar.

Currently 21st in the series standings, Fullwood told the NT News he was "never a V8 Supercar addict" but set his sights on Australia's premier motorsport category after his enormous success in go-karts.

"I never really thought I wanted to be a Supercar driver, but after racing for a few years I thought 'Gee, I'm going half OK here, I might as well see what I can do with it," he said.

"We're not the most financial of all the teams so I said to my parents we've only really got three years to make it happen, so we might as well jump straight into the deep end and see what we can do.

Now based on the Gold Coast, Fullwood works as a driver instructor at Morris' Driver Performance Centre.

But he returns to the Territory to race as often as he can, with the SKYCITY Triple Crown Darwin the third race event he's competed in at Hidden Valley this year.

His recent race miles seem to be paying off too, with Fullwood setting the sixth quickest time in practice one yesterday for the Improved Production, Commodore Cup and HQ's class, before qualifying 10th for race one today.

The first race of the Improved Production, Commodore Cup and HQ's class kicks off at 8.25am local time, ahead of race two at 12.50pm.

The Dunlop Series return to the track at next month's Castrol Townsville 400 - tickets available here.
