The NTI Townsville 500 can’t come quick enough for Dunlop Super2 Series newcomer Elly Morrow.

The first street circuit event of the 2022 Super2 season will feature two 21-lap races.

Morrow heads into her third round of the development series after making her

Super2 debut with Brad Jones Racing at Sydney Motorsport Park in March.

After two rounds the Melbourne racer sits 14th overall, just three points behind Matt White Motorsport driver Angelo Mourouzis.

Friday's opening practice session will mark the 22-year-old’s first attempt at the Reid Park street circuit.

“I’m excited it's the first street circuit I have done,” Morrow told Supercars.com.

“So far I've only done Sydney, Bathurst, and Perth, so I haven't done a great mix.

“I think it's exciting to do something different, and I haven't done anything but a night race other than Bathurst, so it's good to do it in the daytime.

“It’s great to have a different element too, at Bathurst the top of the hill is quite similar to a street track with all the concrete walls and whatnot, but it is hard to be fully prepared for a street circuit.”

Morrow is one of seven rookies to make the leap from the Super3 category in 2022, including 2021 Super3 title winner Nash Morris.

Morrow sits 14th overall

The Victorian has been a karter since she turned 12, making the switch to cars in 2021.

The BJR driver recently returned to competitive karting to remain sharp between Super2 events.

"I've done a few rounds of one of the karting national series," Morrow said.

"I've done all the rounds I can to get into something and drive something, so that's been good, and I’ve been helping out at the kart tracks as well in between rounds.

"I've pretty much been at a racetrack every weekend, just not necessarily in a car, or kart, but at a racetrack.

"We [BJR] have done a couple of test days also in between, which has been good, so I have got back in the car since Perth.

"I feel like we made, really good ground."

Reflecting on her recent test days, Morrow admits improving her qualifying result remains a key focus.

“Our focus was for me to learn the new tyre,” Morrow said.

“I’ve done limited runs on green tyres, and qualifying is something that I need to improve on.

“We have been focusing on trying to get some pace out of that new tyre and working on techniques to do that.

“I've sort of made a mess of qualifying in the last couple of races, so that's definitely my focus point, if you can start strong for the races, the results will come as well.

“In Townsville, I’m wanting to go out there and hit my marks from the start.

“I know from past drivers and past notes where I've got to brake and what I've got to do so that we can work on what we need to from the outset.

“Every race weekend I feel like we are progressing and making good progress, so I think we're just looking to build on that each round, that’s the goal.”

Four of Supercars premier support categories will be in action across all three days; the Dunlop Super2 Series, Porsche Carrera Cup, Toyota Gazoo Racing 86 Series, and the Touring Car Masters Series.

Grove Racing’s Matthew Payne currently leads the series, with Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Declan 84 points behind.

The Dunlop Series will race on Saturday afternoon, ahead of the opening Supercars 250-kilomtere race.
