Matt McLean has continued to impress in his debut Dunlop Super2 Series season, taking out Lets Go Motorhomes Rookie of the Round for the third consecutive time.

McLean charged from mid-pack to the top ten in both Super2 races across the weekend, netting him fourth overall for the third round of the 2021 season.

Also named Dunlop driver of the day, the Melbourne racer was ‘ecstatic’ to able to compete on Sunday, following a horror multi-car crash in Saturday’s opener, leaving the #54 Holden Commodore with severe front and rear damage.

Working tirelessly overnight, the Eggleston Motorsport team repaired McLean’s and teammate Jack Perkins before the former qualified 14th for Race 2.

Pushing his way into the top ten in an uninterrupted finale, the driver and musician finished one place behind Perkins in sixth to record fourth overall.

“Absolutely ecstatic to even be out there today after sustaining such heavy damage in the race yesterday,” McLean said.

“The team pulled an all-nighter to ensure mine and Jack Perkins cars made it make out there today and they performed as good as ever.

“Seriously appreciative of the effort everyone has put in to make it happen. I’m really feeling at home with the crew and it's great to have everyone behind me every step of the way.”

The 24-year-old impressed in the opening round at Mount Panorama, netting the second-fastest time in practice before going on to record finishes of sixth and fifth to end the weekend the highest-placed rookie.

Last weeks’ opening event in Townsville saw the Eggelston driver net eighth outright, his second top rookie finish.

McLean sits fifth in the series, 231 points behind leader Feeney.
