Matt McLean has pipped Cameron Hill in opening Dunlop Series practice in Perth.

A last-gasp flyer helped McLean top the first Wanneroo Raceway running in three years.

Hill wound up just 0.007s off the pace, with Declan Fraser making it a Triple Eight two-three.

Points leader Zak Best was just ninth-quickest, some 0.49s off McLean’s fastest time.

The session was red-flagged at the midway point following an off for Jay Hanson.

The Image Racing teenager found the Turn 7 sand and required retrieval.

Hanson ended the session 15th of the 17 Super2 runners.

Eggleston Motorsport driver Kai Allen proved quickest of the Super3 field, albeit by 0.02s over Brad Vaughan.

Through 15 minutes, Hill led Fraser by 0.08s, with Tyler Everingham third.

The session was halted when Hanson fired off at Turn 7, with the retrieval process soaking up five minutes.

Hill lowered his own benchmark late on before McLean went fastest of all.

It marked the second time in as many rounds that McLean topped first practice, having done so in Sydney.

Cars will return to the track for Practice 2 at 3:20pm local time.

The Dunlop Series will commence its first Perth race in three years at 5:20pm local time on Saturday.
