Reigning Dunlop Super2 Series Champion Garry Jacobson has secured his first race win of the season after making a daring move on the final lap of race one today in Phillip Island.

Jack Le Brocq led for the entire race before Jacobson took his chances in the slippery conditions, moving to the outside at Turn 1 before sweeping up the inside of the Nissan Altima on the final lap.

Jacobson secured his third Super2 race win at Phillip Island today after scoring two wins and a second place last year.

Le Brocq, who started with ARMOR ALL Pole Position for Friday afternoon's race, finished just 0.3 seconds behind Jacobson.

The Vodafone safety car was called with six laps remaining after Matt Chahda went for an off-track excursion crossing close paths with Mason Barbara on his way.

The safety car closed Le Brocq’s 1.8 second lead on Jacobson, giving the Prodrive racer an opportunity to make a move.

Le Brocq initially led MW Motorsport team-mate Shae Davies off the line before Jacobson regained his second position on turn four of the opening lap.

The Nissan Altimas have so far proved quick this weekend, with Davies securing P3 just 1.1 seconds from the lead.

Anton De Pasquale secured fourth place, with Todd Hazelwood and Eggleston Motorsport duo Paul Dumbrell and Will Brown behind the Ford driver.

Brown and Richard Muscat added their own highlights package to the race, with a mid-race battle lauded for its quality.

Brodie Kostecki was elbowed off track after a nudge from Adam Marjoram on lap two, with the Matt Stone Racing driver trying to avoid Kostecki.

Kostecki was able to recover and re-join the field.

Kurt Kostecki and Bryce Fullwood also had an incident in the closing laps of the race, with Fullwood demoted to 18th and Kostecki given a DNF.

The Dunlop Super2 Series will return to the circuit tomorrow for Race Two at 11:20am.
