MW Motorsport's Garry Jacobson has regrouped from a Saturday penalty to take ARMOR ALL Pole for Sunday's Dunlop Super2 Series race at Sandown.
Jacobson was first across the line in Race 1 on Saturday afternoon, but was demoted to 18th by a penalty for an early clash with eventual winner Brodie Kostecki.
It was Kostecki who led the way for the bulk of the 15-minute ARMOR ALL Qualifying session, but he was ultimately pipped by Jacobson, who snatched a second pole of the season.
Kostecki took a tenth off the Super2 lap record with a 1:08.6850s on his first run, which was nearly three tenths clear into the closing minutes
Jacobson, Chris Pither and then Paul Dumbrell all got within a tenth, before Jacobson finally pipped Kostecki with a 1:08.5820s after the chequered flag had come out.
The final margin in Jacobson's favour was 0.1030s over Kostecki, with points leader Dumbrell third and Pither fourth, all within 0.1439s.
Dean Fiore grabbed fifth in a second MW Motorsport Nissan, ahead of Kurt Kostecki and Macauley Jones, who had been second and third into the closing stages.
Alex Rullo, top rookie Thomas Randle and Jake Kostecki rounded out the top 10, with Bryce Fullwood and Will Brown 11th and 12th.
The 22-lap Race 2 of the Dunlop Super2 Series weekend starts at 12:05pm, as the curtain raiser for the RABBLE.club Sandown 500.
UPDATE: Post-session, Jacobson was handed a three-place grid penalty for impeding Pither at Turn 9 mid-session, falling to fourth.
