MW Motorsport driver Zane Goddard turned the fastest-ever Supercars lap of Barbagallo Wanneroo Raceway to set the pace in Dunlop Super2 Series practice.
The PIRTEK Perth SuperNight venue was resurfaced over summer, with lap times dropping on the first visit by Supercars.
Super2's two practice sessions preceded opening Supercars practice on Thursday, with Goddard leading the way.
His 54.3949s set in Practice 2 shaded the Supercars practice/qualifying lap record of 54.5730s from Scott McLaughlin in 2017.
Having been 14th quickest in Practice 1, Goddard moved to the lead with five of the 40 minutes remaining, ending up 0.1155 seconds clear of Ash Walsh.
Brenton Grove, Bryce Fullwood and Walsh all spent time at the top towards the end of Practice 2, before Goddard swept through.
Walsh ultimately took second, ahead of Thomas Randle and Tyler Everingham, who was the best of the rookies.
Fullwood, who was atop the timesheets for the first half of the session, finished fifth, ahead of Adam Marjoram.
Dean Fiore was second in the opening session and ended the day seventh overall, ahead of Jake Kostecki.
Fresh off a Supercars wildcard start at Symmons Plains, Jack Smith was ninth and Grove rounded out the top 10.
Jordan Boys led the way for Image Racing in Practice 1 with a 55.0242s, shading Fiore by 0.0688s.
Boys was 11th in the afternoon, ahead of Will Brown, Kurt Kostecki, Dylan O'Keeffe, Brodie Kostecki and Adelaide polesitter Mason Barbera.
The on-track action continues with ARMOR ALL Qualifying at 1:30pm local time on Friday, followed by Race 1 that afternoon.
