Declan Fraser is determined to make his mark in Townsville this year after Broc Feeney’s strong results in 2021.

The third round of the 2022 Dunlop Super2 Series will headline the support line-up of this weekend’s NTI Townsville 500.

It marks the first street circuit event of the 2022 Super2 season and will feature two 21-lap races.

Fraser has been a model of consistency this season, recording his breakthrough pole and podium for Triple Eight in the Sydney opener.

Another podium last time out in Perth sees the Queenslander sitting second overall, 84 points behind series leader Grove Racing’s Matthew Payne.

Frasers predecessor and close friend Feeney dominated the first Super2 round at Townsville last year, en route to claiming his maiden Super2 crown.

He won both Super2 races at the Reid Park Street Circuit in 2021, and topped all six sessions across the weekend.

Despite being happy with his stability so far this season, Fraser is eyeing his first Super2 career win in Townsville.

“Consistency wins championships,” Fraser told Supercars.com.

“I'm trying to keep that going at the moment.

“Triple Eight with Broc last year had a really strong run, so I’m going off all our data and footage and hopefully we can just keep building and stay consistent.

“But obviously, I would absolutely love to get that first win.

“I've been on the podium a couple of times, and it's fun, but to finally get that race win would be really nice this weekend.”

The 21-year-old has tasted success in Townsville before, winning the Tin Tops Super3 race aboard a Ford Falcon in 2020.

Two years on, Fraser is now part of Triple Eight’s Super2 and Bathurst 1000 wildcard programmes.

He tested his wildcard Commodore at Queensland Raceway for the first time late last month, just days ahead of a Super2 test day and ride day at the Ipswich venue.

It comes after Fraser has travelled to all Supercars events this season to immerse himself in the team.

“I think we are putting in a lot of work behind the scenes, both Triple Eight and myself,” Fraser said.

“We want to try and make sure that I'm fully capable of winning, and when the time comes, and hopefully in Townsville, we can really show that the gains that we've made in the past couple of months.

“I think the biggest thing I've learned is the understanding around the cars themselves.

“Being able to listen in on debrief with JJ and Pete, all the engineers including Andrew [Edwards] and Marty [Short] as well, the guys are just geniuses.

“Being able to listen to them, and hear the feedback that both the drivers give, it's, it's really cool.

“For me, it's just put my career a step forward and knowing what I can talk about how the cars can react to different changes that we can make.

“It's helped build me as a person and also as a racer as well, it's been a really, really cool experience.”

The Dunlop Series will race on Saturday afternoon, ahead of the opening Supercars 250-kilometre race.
