Fraser wins 2022 Dunlop Super2 Series

Victory in the VALO Adelaide 500 finale has handed Declan Fraser the 2022 Dunlop Super2 Series title.

Fraser crossed the line behind Matt Chahda, who had been issued a five-second penalty.

Chahda clashed with pole-sitter Fraser on the opening lap at Turn 4.

Officials handed Chahda a penalty over the incident, and dual Safety Cars prevented his charge.

A late error for Fraser saw Chahda cross the line 2.17s ahead.

Chahda dropped to second ahead of Zak Best, who sealed second in the standings.

Matt Payne was classified fourth and finished third overall.

The top three for the round were the top three in the points standings.

Crash ends Super3 leader's title hopes

Thomas Maxwell crossed the line third, but dropped to 14th due to a Safety Car infringement.

Fraser helped Triple Eight to its second straight Super2 drivers' title after Broc Feeney's 2021 breakthrough.

With the win, Triple Eight won the Supercars drivers' and teams' titles, Super2 title and Bathurst 1000.

Chahda picked off Best into the Senna Chicane for the first time, and closed on Fraser.

Front-to-rear contact saw Fraser carted wide, with Chahda earning the ire of officials.

The race was neutralised for the first time when Super3 points leader Kai Allen dramatically crashed at Turn 8.

The crash saw Allen, who dominated the 2022 Super3 season, cede the title to Brad Vaughan.

Vaughan was first Super3 driver home in 11th overall, and won the Super3 title.

Turn 8 ends Super2 contender's race

After the restart, Cameron Hill — fifth in the queue — also smashed the wall at Turn 8.

The race was neutralised for three laps as officials shifted the Turn 8 concrete wall.

Fraser bowled a wide at the final corner at the restart, giving Chahda crucial metres in hand.

Fraser and Best came under investigation over the restart, with Best picking up minor damage.

Maxwell climbed over Best, but a penalty would rule him out of contention.

Chahda took the chequered flag first, but the win went to Fraser, who also won on Saturday.

It was Fraser’s fourth race win and second round win of the season.

The 2023 Dunlop Series will commence on the streets of Newcastle on March 10-12.
