A late flyer has helped Declan Fraser pace second Dunlop Series practice at the NTI Townsville 500.

Fraser’s 1:15.196s proved just 0.06s quicker than Practice 1 fast man Tyler Everingham.

Everingham loomed to make it a Friday practice double when he jumped to the top late on.

However, Fraser kept Triple Eight’s fast form in Townsville with the best lap of the session.

Everingham, Cameron Hill and Zak Best were within 0.093s of Fraser.

The 40-minute hit-out was paused midway through after Brad Vaughan stopped at pit exit.

Points leader Matt Payne set the early running on a 1:16.203s.

Tim Blanchard hit the front with six minutes remaining on a 1:15.674s.

Blanchard is making a cameo with Eggleston Motorsport in the place of Matt McLean.

Blanchard won Townsville races in 2010 and 2011, and the overall 2010 round.

Everingham blew everyone out of the water with a 1:15.258s with two minutes remaining.

Best loomed to go quicker, but lost time in the final sector.

However, Fraser and Hill pushed Triple Eight into first and third as the chequered flag flew.

Super2 and Super3 drivers will return on Saturday for qualifying at 9:05am local time.
