Eggleston Motorsport's Paul Dumbrell has dominated the opening Dunlop Super2 Series race of 2017 at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide.

Dumbrell started on the front-row of the grid for Race 1 after securing ARMOR ALL Pole Position earlier today.

The veteran racer dominated the field from the start, eventually taking the flag 5.2249s ahead of second placed Todd Hazelwood.

Jack Le Brocq was also on the pace, setting the fastest lap on the way from seventh on the grid to third.

Anton De Pasquale took P2 from Kurt Kostecki in the opening laps of the race, before making a slight error and clipping the tyre wall on lap 6.

The contact broke the rear wing of De Pasquale's ex-Prodrive Ford, putting him out of the race.

Macauley Jones improved solidly from eighth on the grid to finish fourth in his Brad Jones Racing Holden.

Le Brocq’s teammate Shae Davies made the top five despite bumping out his headlights on the tyre wall and causing damage to the front of his Altima.

Reigning series winner Garry Jacobson endured a torrid race from third on the grid, roughed up by several rivals before coming home 11th.

The Dunlop Super2 Series will be back on-track tomorrow for Race Two tomorrow at 11:15am local time.
