Zak Best has closed the Super2 points gap to Declan Fraser with victory in Race 1 in Bathurst.

Best led from start to finish in the shortened race, which was punctuated by wet weather.

The race began and finished under the control of the BP Ultimate Safety Car.

The scheduled 18-lapper went green after two yellow laps.

However, a crash for Angelo Mouzouris after the restart saw the race neutralised once again.

Best led drivers to green on lap 3, and quickly skipped away from Everingham.

However, Everingham closed the gap to within a second before Mouzouris crashed.

Mouzouris was battling with Fraser for fifth before he bowled a wide at Griffin’s Bend.

The #6 MW Motorsport Altima was buried under the tyre barriers with extensive front damage.

The race was neutralised on lap 6, and did not resume.

Dense fog set across the top of the mountain during the Safety Car period.

It cleared shortly afterwards, but it wasn’t enough to convince officials to restart the race.

Full points were awarded, with the leader completing 11 of the scheduled 18 laps.

Best slashed Fraser's lead to 75 points; Fraser had arrived in Bathurst with a 114-point lead.

It marked Best’s second win of 2022, and first since the Sydney season-opener.

Matt Payne was classified third ahead of Cameron Hill, with Fraser fifth.

Jay Hanson was sixth ahead of Matt McLean, Cameron Crick, Aaron Seton and Thomas Maxwell.

Drivers will return to the track on Saturday for qualifying and Race 2.
