Ryan Wood’s Race 2 victory at the Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint was followed by an investigation over the restart which saw him take the lead.

Wood won both races at CARCO.com.au Raceway last weekend, and claimed overall round honours.

The Walkinshaw Andretti United teen’s Race 2 win came after he pounced on Kai Allen on a Safety Car restart.

Wood achieved an overlap on Allen as they exited Turn 7 ahead of the restart, when the green flag flew. However, he completed the pass at the end of pit straight.

The New Zealander claimed the lead and ran away to victory, with Allen bowling a wide at Turn 2 and finishing fourth.

Allen’s team, Eggleston Motorsport, requested an investigation into the restart.

Wood was found to have not overlapped before the green flag was shown. The Kiwi wasn’t penalised, and kept his victory.

The stewards’ report reads: “Following a Request for Investigation from Eggleston Motorsport alleging Car 2 overlapped Car 26 on the second Safety Car restart before the Green Flag was displayed and a Post-Session review of all available broadcast vision, the Deputy Race Director in consultation with the Driving Standards Advisor determined that Car 2 did not have overlap on Car 26 before the Green Flag was displayed, nor before the apex of the final turn and therefore no breach of the Rules could be substantiated and for that reason the matter was not referred to the Stewards.”

Wood’s teammate Zach Bates sailed into second place, but had to serve a drive-through penalty over the incident which caused the Safety Car.

Bates hit the rear of pole-sitter Brad Vaughan’s Ford and sent the Tickford Racing driver into the wall.

Aaron Love (Blanchard Racing Team) and Cooper Murray (Eggleston) completed the top three in the race.

Wood, however, was fined $500 over a breach of post-race procedure when he entered the pit lane after the chequered flag.

Anderson Motorsport’s Zak Best leads the points heading to the next round, the NTI Townsville 500, on July 7-9.
