Super-drivers spend day with super heroes in Dunalley

V8Supercars has today announced the Rotary Tasmania Bushfire Appeal as thecharitable partner for the Tasmania 360, April 5 -7.

TheRotary Appeal was established after devastating bushfires swept through theTasman Peninsula in January, destroying hundreds of buildings in the coastaltown of Dunalley and surrounding areas.  

Freshfrom the series opening Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, V8 Supercar drivers MichaelCaruso and Scott McLaughlin visited the fire ravished town and caught up with localfire fighters and other emergency service workers.

Nissandriver, Michael Caruso said visiting the burned town was a daunting experience.

“Icould never imagine my entire life being destroyed by fire. These men and womenare true heroes, putting their lives on the line to save their community,” saidCaruso.

Thedrivers also spent time with some families who lost everything when the out ofcontrol inferno engulfed their homes.

V8Supercar rookie Scott McLaughlin was full of praise for the families.

“Theyare very brave, they have lost everything and the sad thing is they aren’t theonly family, an entire community was affected,” said McLaughlin.

TheAppeal was established by Rotary Tasmania to assist communities, small businessesand help families rebuild and recover from the devastating bushfires.

V8Supercars General Manager of Events, Kurt Sakzewski, said the partnership with the Rotary Tasmania BushfireAppeal was significant.

“Itis important that we help local communities where we travel and also helpfellow Australians in their time of need,” said Sakzewsk.

“V8Supercars endeavours to help and support the appeal which is aiding theDunalley community rebuild and repair.”

V8Supercars will return to Symmons Plains Raceway next month for the Tasmania 360where the drivers will again battle it out over a weekend of high speed, actionpacked racing in round two of the 2013 Championship.

Forthe first time drivers will experience the new 60/60 sprint race format,ensuring greater high speed action for fans.
