Slade racing under #300 this weekend

V8 Supercars star Tim Slade will celebrate the opening of major sponsor Supercheap Auto's 300th store by carrying the #300 on his Supercheap Auto Racing Commodore for the next two V8 Supercars events - the Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint (27-29 March) and the Perth SuperSprint (1-3 May).

The 300th Supercheap Auto store, located at 578 North East Rd, Holden Hill, in Adelaide, opens its doors on Saturday, 18 April.

Slade and Supercheap Auto Racing enduro co-driver Tony D'Alberto will attend the store's gala opening, which will include a free BBQ from the Triple M Street Team, giveaways, in-store specials, and the chance for Supercheap Auto Club members to win vouchers.

Slade said he was excited to celebrate the retailer's milestone by sporting the #300.

"Supercheap Auto has played an important role in my career as a V8 driver, so I am thrilled to be to celebrating such an important milestone in its history by carrying the #300 on the Supercheap Auto Racing Commodore," Slade said.

"The company has been a great supporter of V8 Supercars, and has supported Holden teams for more than 10 years, so it's fitting that its new store is at Holden Hill.

"It's no secret that I'm a proud South Australian, so I can't wait to be a part of such a significant day."

Supercheap Auto was first launched in 1972 as a mail order business, and opened its first retail store in Brisbane in 1974.

The brand has since become one of Australia's leading specialty retailers, publically listed in 2004 and becoming the foundation of the Super Retail Group (SRG).

SRG's brands also include Amart Sports, Avanti Fitness, Ray's Outdoors, Rebel, Workout World and Super Retail Commercial, with operations in Australia, New Zealand and China. The group has more than 600 stores in total, and annualised turnover in excess of $2 billion.

Supercheap Auto Marketing Manager David Bauer said V8 Supercars has played an instrumental role in the brand's expansion.

"Our involvement in V8 Supercars, as a team naming rights sponsor and title rights sponsor of Australia's great race, the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, has been important in the growth and development of Supercheap Auto," Bauer said.

Slade and the #300 Supercheap Auto Racing Commodore will take to Symmons Plains Raceway, near Launceston, for round two of the V8 Supercars Championship beginning tomorrow.
