Supercheap Auto Racing's Russell Ingall has become the first V8 Supercar driver to receive a Guinness World Record.

Ingall makes his 226th start at this weekend's Sucrogen Townsville 400, breaking the record for the most starts in Australian Touring Car Championship/V8 history.

The 2005 V8 Supercars Champion was today presented with a GWR certificate recognising his achievement as an official record.

"To be the most-capped driver is definitely an honour. I'm proud my kids will have something to look at when they flick open the Guinness Book of World Records and see their dad's name," Ingall said

While Ingall's milestone includes starts in the Australian Touring Car Championship and V8 Supercar Championship, the recent expansion of the V8SC to races outside Australia has seen GWR recognise the category as an international series.

Ingall also set a provisional world record for balancing 10 caps on his head in the shortest possible time, achieving the feat in 7.86 seconds to celebrate his status as "most-capped" driver.

The roof of Ingall's SCAR VF Commodore has been decorated with a "226 Starts" graphic on the roof of his SCAR Commodore, featuring a list of all the venues where Ingall has competed.

Ingall will take to Townsville's Reid Park street circuit for practice tomorrow, followed by 200km races on Saturday and Sunday with a mixture of hard and soft tyres.
