After substantial accidents at the Bathurst 1000, David Reynolds,Lee Holdsworth and Russell Ingall with remain in replacement chassis for the next V8 Supercars event in Phillip Island.
After a clash between Holdsworth and Ingall at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, both Erebus Motorsport and Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport built up spares to run at the Gold Coast event.
With less than a fortnight to prepare a car for the treacherous Gold Coast streets, Erebus elected to build up its original New Generation chassis, which was firsttested as a Falcon.
LDM, without a spare in the wings, borrowed one of the ex-GRM chassis in the possession of Dragon Motor Racing, intended to run as a wild card entry at the Bathurst 1000.
Preparing the car for the Gold Coast event was no easy feat for the LDM crew, with the team having to re-fit the front end to run its NRE engine. GRM previously ran Walkinshaw engines, which are mounted differently- and that change was just one element of getting the chassis race ready.
Even with the Car of the Future formula, and GRM last year and LDM this year both racing Holdens, the differences in specifications are significant and the team will continue to work to transform the borrowed chassis towards the team's usual specs ahead of the Phillip Island round.
While the chassis will be leased from Dragon boss Tony Klein until the end of the season, the goal at this stage is to have Ingall's regular car ready for the December 5-7 Sydney grand finale.
LDM driver Russell Ingall admitted the Repair Management Racing Australia car was difficult to adapt to, but he and co-driver Tim Blanchard managed ninth and eighth on the Surfers streets -eighth being Ingall's best result since a fourth-place finish in Tasmania in March.
"The car felt evil in my first stint after the driver change," Ingall said post-race. "With the issues we faced to get to the meeting, two top 10 finishes were certainly unexpected."
While Holdsworth's Bathurst chassis will be built back up as a spare - with the parts that can't be saved, turfed out -he will remain in the replacement for the rest of the season.
Holdsworth did nothing but thank his crew for their tireless work across the endurance season, with a high-profile smash at Sandown as well as Bathurst.
"It was such an awesome thing to come back after what 's happened the last couple of rounds -the guys put together a brand new car and we put it in the shootout, which was massive. That was a great start to the weekend, showed a lot of potential and pace with the car," Holdsworth said.
"Sunday, again our run of luck didn't go our way -that's the third one now so they say things come in threes.
"Hopefully that's over now and we can press on for Phillip Island and Homebush and finish the year on a high. Get all our ducks lined up in a row and make sure we get the result we deserve."
Reynolds diverted to the FPR spare, raced by Super Black Racing at Mount Panorama, after a shunt in qualifying at Mount Panorama, and will also remain with the replacement chassis for Phillip Island.
