DJR Team Penske's Scott Pye has been taken to hospital with suspected broken ribs after his horror crash at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

The injury leaves Pye in doubt for the Castrol Gold Coast 600 (in less than a fortnight) forcing the team to begin scouting for a replacement to join Marcos Ambrose for the last event of the PIRTEK Enduro Cup.

Pye was running in 11th position in today's race when he speared into the wall at Sulman Park on lap 138 of 161.

"Our initial technical inspection suggests the car may have broken a steering arm on the run down into Reid Park, pitching Scott into the wall," TDJR Team Penske boss Ryan Story said.

"He is battered and bruised of course, and we suspect he may have broken one or two ribs. Dr Carl [Le, V8 Supercars' medical delegate] is supervising some checks at the Orange Base Hospital, so we know he is in great hands."

DJR Team Penske is yet to complete a full inspection of the beaten-up XBOX Ford Falcon, but may need to roll out a brand new FG X after today's huge hit.

The #17 entry had featured as a front-runner earlier in the day, having started the 1000 from eighth on the grid after making yesterday's ARMOR ALL Top 10 Shootout.

"The whole DJR Team Penske crew were devastated as we watched Scott's accident from the pits," Story said.

"The team's performance this weekend, led by Scott, has been outstanding, so it's very disappointing to see him crash out in such a way.

"We wish Scott the speediest of recoveries."

Prodrive Racing Australia is also looking for a second driver for the Castrol Gold Coast 600 after Chaz Mostert's injuries suffered on Friday at Bathurst.

Russell Ingall has subbed in since Sandown for the Holden Racing Team after James Courtney suffered five broken ribs and a punctured lung after a pit lane incident at Sydney Motorsport.
