Red Bull Racing Australia's Jamie Whincup has been in the sand trap before – but nothing like this.

Whincup’s V8 Supercar roared down the Gold Coast beach on Thursday afternoon, in a spectacular car versus plane race, ahead of the ARMOR ALL Gold Coast 600.

Championship leader Whincup sped across the pristine sand as the Red Bull stunt plane jetted around in front of the city skyline backdrop.

“It definitely got the adrenalin pumping today on the beach with the Red Bull stunt plane,” Whincup said.

“It was crazy – certainly something I’ve never done before.

“I’ve run through a few sand traps in my life but never along the main beach here along the Gold Coast.

“Another awesome experience, I couldn’t be happier, and I think on behalf of everyone at Red Bull Racing Australia I think we’re ready for a big weekend here at GC 600.”

Whincup, paired with Paul Dumbrell, came home second at the recent Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 – and the pair is on-track to take home the inaugural PIRTEK Enduro Cup, acknowledging the most successful pairing across V8 Supercars’ three endurance races, to be awarded at the Gold Coast event.

Whincup leads RBRA teammate Craig Lowndes by 43 points in the chase for the cup, and by 113 in the 2013 Championship standings.

The four-time Champion is looking forward to competing on the streets of Surfers Paradise.

“I love GC 600, mainly because it’s my home event," Whincup said.

“I live just up the road, ride the bike in – literally ride my motorbike down pit lane and park it beside the car!

“I get to sleep at home and it’s sort of my type of race meeting.”

Tickets are still available for the ARMOR ALL Gold Coast 600, which kicks off on Friday, October 25th.
