One-month countdown on to Tasmania SuperSprint

Scott Pye and Garry Jacobson have marked the start of the one-month countdown to the Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint with a trip to Hobart.

Supercars will make its traditional visit to the Apple Isle next month, drivers tackling Symmons Plains Raceway near Launceston on April 5-7.

This year Supercars is celebrating 50 years of racing in Tasmania, with Symmons Plains having hosted its maiden Australian Touring Car Championship event in 1969.

Hall of Fame inductee Norm Beechey won that race in a Shell Racing Team Monaro GTS 327.

Celebrating that, Pye and Jacobson were joined by a handful of Holden Monaros on display at the Port of Hobart.

Mobil 1 MEGA Racing's Pye had a rough weekend at the season-opening Superloop Adelaide 500, crashing on Saturday and finishing 17th on Sunday.

He recorded a pair of top 10 finishes at Symmons Plains in 2018, though, after taking his maiden win at Albert Park.

Jacobson made his full-time Supercars debut in Adelaide with Kelly Racing, finishing 19th and 22nd, and has a Dunlop Super2 Series podium at Symmons Plains to his name.

The Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint is the state's biggest annual sporting event and this year will feature four support categories.

The event begins with a Transporter Parade through the streets of Launceston on Wednesday April 3.
