Gallery: Behind the scenes at retro round

Each and every year, the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 brings an added sense of fun to the Supercars paddock with its retro theme and its rich history.

Fans flocked to the Melbourne circuit, with some embracing retro kit and others admiring the one-off old-style apparel and car liveries on display.

Supercars.com reflects on the weekend that was with a selection of pictures from around the grounds.

Triple Eight rolled out their traditional berets for the occasion, while the likes of James Golding and Macauley Jones opted for blasts from the past hairdos. 

Supercars' staff also got in the spirit with special jackets, berets and aviation goggles, as fashioned below by Head of Motorsport Adrian Burgess.

Throwback liveries of course were a big part of the show, with 12 cars taking part in tributes to the likes of Jim Richards and Bob Morris.

Among others was Jones, who ran in the colours that his father and team owner Brad Jones ran in the early 2000s.

There was no shortage of actual old-school cars around the Sandown precinct, too. 

There was also a touching look back through the years outside the Garry Rogers Motorsport garage, with the team owner's son Barry arranging a tribute wall for drivers, crew members and fans to sign.
