V8 Supercars young gun Scott McLaughlin returned to the site of one of his major junior karting successes today, when he visited the Launceston Kart Club, the place where finished on the podium during the 2008 national karting titles.

Wilson Security GRM driver McLaughlin, who was Tasmanian State Karting Champion in 2006 and 2009, met with a group of up and coming racers to share his experiences from his rapid rise through the motorsport world to become a V8 Supercars star.

McLaughlin had a breakout year in 2014 with Volvo Polestar, winning 10 pole positions, 10 podium positions and five race wins, all at only 21 years of age.

McLaughlin explained to the next generation of Tassie motorsport that if you try your best, and work hard, anything is possible.

"I am still blown away by the ride my career has taken me on," said McLaughlin.

"I never would have guessed when I was racing karts that I would end up as a factory Volvo driver in the V8 Supercars Championship. It shows that if you put in the hard work, the rewards will come."

McLaughlin endured a tough start to his 2015 campaign at the Clipsal 500; he currently sits 18th in the Championship standings.

He is looking to bounce back at the Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint, and kick start his challenge to wrestle the Championship crown from six-time winner Jamie Whincup.

"It's great to be back here in Tasmania, I have always enjoyed racing down here. We have had a good run at Symmons Plains over the last couple of seasons, running in the top five, so I'm hoping we can continue that run next weekend," McLaughlin said.

"I know that my car is fast, the team is going really well and it's a circuit that I enjoy racing on, so I can't wait to hit the track next week."

The Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint is one of Tasmania's largest sporting events, and will take place at Symmons Plains Raceway over the weekend March 27-29.
