Mark Winterbottom led a Team 18 resurgence in Tasmania following a controversial Saturday.

Winterbottom recorded finishes of sixth and seventh in the two Sunday races.

Teammate Scott Pye finished seventh in the first two races before settling for 13th in the finale.

Winterbottom entered Sunday having been penalised for an incident with David Reynolds.

The 2015 champion tagged Reynolds into a spin late in Race 3, which saw Chaz Mostert pick up damage.

Winterbottom apologised for his role in the incident, and rebounded on Sunday with third in Race 4 qualifying.

It could have been even better for Winterbottom in the following session, who qualified 10th for Race 5.

Race 5 qualifying was red-flagged following an incident between Tim Slade and Shane van Gisbergen.

The 40-year-old is 13th overall, but is just 24 points from eighth in the standings.

"Today was a lot better today after quite a tough race yesterday,” said Winterbottom, who tested the Gen3 Camaro on Monday.

"We rolled out today and qualified third for the first race, in the second one we were on an absolute ripper of a lap when the red flag came out so we started 11th there.

"But I think the front couple of rows for both races were on.

"We didn’t have the best race pace but to be sixth and seventh with two top 10 results is positive for the team so we’ll regroup and get ready for the Grand Prix.”

It was a smart return for Pye, who was undone by poor reliability in Sydney.

He now heads to the site of his maiden Supercars victory, Albert Park.

"It was a pretty solid weekend for us with two sevenths and a 13th in the last race,” Pye said.

"The last race was a bit unlucky for us, just a couple of things didn’t go our way so unfortunately we didn’t get the result we would have liked.

"Overall a great weekend, a good points haul and it was great to bounce back like we did after a tough weekend in Sydney.

"We’ve come away back in the hunt with some good points and we head to the Grand Prix with a straight car and a fast car.”

The season will continue at Albert Park on April 7-10.
