Current champ Mark Winterbottom has topped this morning’s final practice session at the WD-40 Phillip Island SuperSprint, curbing the Triple Eight train behind him.
After having his lap record smashed yesterday by Scott McLaughlin, ‘Frosty’ bounced back in the 15-minute session.
The V8 Supercars drivers were ready for their flying laps when the rain started coming, and Winterbottom’s 1min31.31sec lap remained fastest, the Ford Falcon driver with a 0.22sec buffer over Shane van Gisbergen.
“Decent enough [run],I’m P1 but in true Phillip Island fashion, put a race meet on and it will rain,” The Bottle-O racer said.
The Holden Racing Team duo were down the order in the session, former champ James Courtney 19th but hopeful the team would find some speed before the next run.
“Hopefully we’ve learned from this mistake and we roll out a better car in qualifying,” he said on FOX SPORTS.
