Thousandsof Queenslander's are expected to flock to Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport (BWWA) to watch the 2014 IndyCar champion Will Power jump into a V8 Supercar and race a Cessna Mustang Citation jet down the newly-completed 2.87 kilometre runway.

The local Toowoomba boy is in Australia to celebrate the airport's community open day, which kicks off at 9.30am.

"I've never raced a jet before so it should be pretty exciting," says Will, Australia's first ever IndyCar champion.

Will's race will take place on Sunday at 11.45am and again at 2.15pm.

Sunday's community event will also be the last chance the community has for a 'behind the scenes' preview of Australia's newest airport.

Wagners' chairman and airport developer John Wagner said crowds would be excited by the massive array of planes on the tarmac - with everything from a QantasLink Q400 to a 737 and a Beechcraft Kingair - almost 20 planes of all different sizes.

"It will be a pretty impressive aerial display from the air and the ground - definitely a sign of the aviation industry's confidence in the project," said Mr Wagner.
