To finish first, first you have to finish.
That is the mantra of racing; already in 2022, nine drivers have retired from at least one race.
That has us thinking; who has the best active finishing streak in Supercars?
Three drivers have active finish streaks of 50 or races, although that grouping comes with a catch.
Officially, Will Davison has finished his last 55 races; however, he missed the balance of 2020 after 23Red Racing closed its doors.
Davison started three races in 2020; the dual Adelaide races, and as a co-driver with Tickford in Bathurst.
From there, the longest streak belongs to Nick Percat, whose last DNF was due to an engine failure in Townsville 2020.
Percat, regarded by many as one of the most consistent racers on the grid, last crashed out of a race in Darwin 2020.
Current points leader Shane van Gisbergen's last DNF was due to a power steering failure in Townsville 2020.
The weekend prior, van Gisbergen crashed on the opening lap, but his car was repaired and he was classified.
Before that, the Kiwi suffered a dramatic suspension failure late in the second leg in Adelaide 2020.
Davison, Percat and van Gisbergen have a long way to catch Jamie Whincup's remarkable record.
Whincup finished 136 consecutive races between Gold Coast 2013 and Albert Park 2018.
Will a chaotic weekend at Winton undo the top drivers' finish streaks?
