Jamie Whincup has praised Race of Champions winner David Coulthard after competing in Barbados at Bushy Park over the weekend.

The annual Race of Champions event invites the world's best drivers across different forms of motorsport to come together and challenge one another -

Whincup in 2012 was the first V8 Supercars Champion to contest the event, then held in Bangkok.

He was hoping to push for the win his second time in the event, but in Sunday's solo races was eliminated in the semi-final by 13-time Formula One Grand Prix winner Coulthard, falling just 0.1751sec short, after having beaten 2004 NASCAR champion Kurt Busch in the quarter final.

It's about to get loud!

"Congratulations to David Coulthard who won this years Race of Champions," Whincup posted on Facebook this morning.

"He was too good and knocked me out in the semi-final by 17 hundredths of a second.

"Not only was he the last to leave the bar each night, but he's one of the funniest bastards I have ever [met] and drove out of his skin all weekend. Overall I had a fantastic experience representing Australian Motorsport."

The previous day, Whincup was paired with Mick Doohan representing Australia, for the ROC Nations Cup.

The duo only recorded one win for the team, taken by Whincup, with Team Nordic going on to win the ROC Nations Cup, as Tom Kristensen and Petter Solberg defeated Team Scotland's Coulthard and Susie Wolff by two heats to one in the final to wrap.

This time last week Whincup had just been awarded his record-breaking sixth V8 Supercars title after an extraordinary year, which saw him bounce back from a tough start to win by almost two rounds' worth of points.

Whincup is looking forward to a quiet Christmas spent with family and friends before gearing up for the 2015 V8 Supercars season, which kicks off with the sydney.com V8 SuperTest, running from February 7-8, 2015.
