Jamie Whincup has labelled the Gen3 project as the "biggest achievement" in Triple Eight's history.

Triple Eight took the covers off its two Red Bull Ampol Gen3 Chevrolet Camaros, complete in testing colours, on Thursday.

The two cars, driven by Shane van Gisbergen and Broc Feeney, made their track debuts in testing at Queensland Raceway.

Triple Eight is Supercars' designated homologation team for General Motors and the Gen3 Camaro.

The Gen3 project was first announced in late 2020, with the cars being unveiled in late 2021.

Come 2023, and the cars will make their long-awaited racing debut at the Thrifty Newcastle 500.

In that time, Triple Eight also built PremiAir Racing's new Camaros at its Banyo's base alongside staff from the latter.

Triple Eight has also done much of the control component development on behalf of Supercars.

Seeing the team's Gen3 cars on track was a major source of pride for Whincup, who has led the team since taking over from Roland Dane in 2022.

"I can’t emphasise enough the enormous dedication our Triple Eight Race Engineering team has put into this Gen3 project," Whincup said.

"For three years our design team led by our Technical Director, Jeromy Moore have delivered Supercars, their partners and the millions of fans around the world an extremely high-quality racing product suited to our Australian conditions.

"More recently our manufacturing and car preparation teams have been working around the clock to make our first official test day this week.

"This project is no doubt Triple Eight Race Engineering’s biggest achievement.

"To see two fully built, fully operational Red Bull Ampol Racing Chevrolet Camaros having their first run at Queensland Raceway will be beyond exciting for all of us."

Triple Eight, PremiAir test new Gen3 cars

Triple Eight will follow its Thursday test with more miles at Queensland Raceway on Tuesday February 14.

All teams will test at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 22 before the March 10-12 Newcastle event.

"The Gen3 era is going to be amazing for Supercars," Whincup added.

"Hopefully seeing our cars on track for the first time creates a huge buzz amongst fans, our team partners and members.

"I couldn’t be prouder of our team and what they’ve achieved – I look forward to watching Shane and Broc showcase our potential once we hit the track with everyone else."

The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle on March 10-12.

Tickets are on sale on Supercars.com and Ticketek.com.
