It's day one at the Castrol Townsville 500 - Driven by TAFE Queensland and the fun is just getting started.

It is practice day for the V8 Supercars, the star attraction spending an hour on-track across three sessions, beginning at 10.10am local time.

Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup will be looking to reel in Mark Winterbottom this event, who extended his lead at the last event in Darwin. But there will be plenty of on-track action this weekend and throughout the day today, including track time for the V8 Utes, Carrera Cup and Dunlop Series.

A range of drivers are competing in the Dunlop Series, with Steven Johnson and Dean Fiore alongside regulars Paul Dumbrell and Ash Walsh, who are all co-driving throughout the Pirtek Enduro Cup.

For those after some shade, the Super Top will be in operation today. Relax in comfort with music, bars, food stalls, and seating - of course, a big screen will ensure you won't miss a moment of the action.

The Disney Fun Zone will keep the kids busy, with life-size replicas of Mack The Transporter and the one and only Lightning McQueen. They can chill out in the B double trailer featuring the latest Disney blockbuster, Planes or explore and bounce in the fantastic Planes-themed inflatable zone.

Head to the paddock, or support category paddock, to see the cars up-close - you may even be surprised by who you bump into!
