Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport will swap Nick Percat into a new chassis for next weekend's Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint, after finding the damage to his Commodore from the Grand Prix was more significant than expected.

Percat was involved in the startline incident in the final race at Albert Park, and while the team initially believed the car could be repaired in time for next week's event, LDMhas purchased TEKNO's spare chassis for the season to build up.

Jonathon Webb finished his full-time V8 Supercars career in that chassis, coming home on the podium at the Sydney 500 - with Shane van Gisbergen - at his final meeting in 2013.

With TEKNO transitioning a new car for van Gisbergen - which is scheduled to be built up further in the April break - Webb's old chassis won't be required as a spare.

Given LDM currently runs two Triple Eight built chassis, the TEKNO car was a great option for the team. However it needs to be completely built up and is expected to arrive in Melbourne tomorrow afternoon.

While team managed Barry Hay described the accident as a soft crash, once they started pulling apart the car earlier this week it quickly became apparent there was more damage than originally expected.

"It wasn't much to look at, but the way it happened - that particular point of the car is known to be weak, and it did a terrible lot of damage," Hay told v8supercars.com.au.

While teammate Tim Blanchard's car is complete and ready to go into the B-double with the transporters, and over to Tasmania, Percat's will take is own trip.

"We've got a car trailer here and we'll load that and the toolboxes and we'll take that over on the Spirit of Tasmania," Hay said.

The interesting part of the chassis swap - sponsor Phil Munday has purchased teammate Blanchard's current car, which is significant to him as the last V8 Supercar Russell Ingall raced, which assisted the team in purchasing Webbs' car.

So Blanchard will receive Percat's car when it returns from repairs at Pace Innovations in Queensland, and Percat keeps Webb's for the season.

While LDM doesn't have a functioning spare, Hay said it was something they were working on - and thanked his crew members for the work they were putting in.

"We're lucky we've got... an exceptionally good team, guys who aren't scared of big tasks."

DJR Team Penske also suffered significant damage to the car Marcos Ambrose raced at the Grand Prix. Given the team's rotating chassis plan though, that chassis was not scheduled to race at the next event. Scott Pye will be behind the wheel of the DJR Team Penske entry in Tasmania.
