Bleached hair and tattoos: How Mostert and Holdsworth will celebrate

Chaz Mostert has revealed why the Walkinshaw Andretti United team are suddenly sporting blonde hair following their historic Bathurst win.

Mostert and Lee Holdsworth raced to victory from pole position in Sunday’s Repco Bathurst 1000.

It marked Mostert’s second Bathurst win, and veteran Holdsworth his first at his 18th attempt.

It also delivered WAU's first Great Race victory in ten years.

Mostert unveiled his new ‘do’ last Tuesday, showing off a blonde mohawk in preparation for his Bathurst showdown.

The 29-year-old claimed his first TCR title on Thursday before recording the fastest ever Supercars lap around Mount Panorama in Saturday’s ARMOR ALL Top Ten Shootout.

Sunday’s Great Race saw Mostert and Holdsworth combine to lead over 100 laps despite suffering a puncture early in the race.

Speaking to Tuesday Night Takeaway hosts Chad Neylon and Briony Ingerson, the two-time Bathurst winner explained the unique post-race celebrations.

“Oh no, I don’t know what’s going on,” Mostert laughed.

“There have been so many bets going on in the last couple of days, I don’t remember making them, I don’t think I have made them, they have been making them with each other.

“When got to catch up with the team on Sunday night after the race, we rock up and see Ryan Walkinshaw in the hall and his hair is blonde.

“Then next there were another three or four crew members lining up to get their hair blonde as well.

“It’s a little bit emotional in a way, we are all little blondes, but to see the passion in the team, and what this means to them all, and for them to go get their hair bleached is ridiculous, but it’s cool to be a part of, I’m so proud to be a part of this team.

“To see the success we had on the weekend, it’s all down to hard work and determination.

“Lee and I have said it was such a privilege to drive that car, that they have prepped for us, and to represent the brands that we represent, it’s amazing and it’s all starting to sink in, to be honest.

“The team is just amazing for me, I'm a bit of a character and have a bit of fun, so it's so good for the whole team to get behind it and enjoy it as well.

“I feel very at home at Walkinshaw, it’s awesome.”

The Gold Coast-based driver is yet to celebrate his win with family and friends, due to state border restrictions.

Overwhelmed by the support, Mostert hinted there could also be celebratory tattoos on the horizon.

“It’s a little bit emotional, as you like to share these moments that we have in our career as soon as possible, but I’ve been blown away by the support I’ve received from back home,” Mostert said.

“I always make a conscious effort to say hi to the ‘Bunker Crew’, most people won’t know what that means, but I have very special friends and a special partner back home, it’s crazy the support they have sent me.

“There’s not only bleached hair, but there are also some tattoos that have already been done, so it’s amazing the support we have.

“I can’t wait for me and Lee and get one together.

“I think we will get a little Mozzie with blonde hair and Lee standing on a footstool so we are the same height, something like that.

“I’m so proud of my little mate and what he achieved on the weekend.”

The 13-event 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle next year. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

The 13-round draft calendar was released on Sunday.
