Shane van Gisbergen and Cam Waters have both recorded personal best results in their ongoing speedway swings.

The Supercars stars have taken to the dirt in a bid to sharpen up for the 2023 season.

Van Gisbergen is competing in his native New Zealand, with Mildura-born Waters racing in rural Victoria.

Both drivers competed to mixed results on New Year’s Day, but showed serious signs of competitive progress this week.

Van Gisbergen competed at Napier’s Meeanee Speedway on Wednesday night.

There, the three-time Supercars champon recorded a top three finish in Heat 1, before coming home eighth in Heat 2.

The Red Bull Ampol Racing driver then ran to seventh in the final, which was won by Daniel Thomas.

Seventh marked van Gisbergen’s best feature result after finishes of 14th and ninth at Western Springs Speedway.

It came after van Gisbergen endured two turbulent evenings at the Western Springs venue.

Van Gisbergen's competitive speedway debut featured a 360-spin, while his second event featured a scary fire.

Earlier this week, Waters competed in the Victorian 410 Title at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway.

Waters survived contact with the wall to set the fastest time of his group and claim the Quick Time award — just the second of his 410 career.

The Tickford driver was third fastest of the 45-car field, and just 0.07s behind leader Jamie Veal.

Waters started sixth in Heat 3, and finished an impressive second after a dramatic affair.

He started from third for the A-Main — his best starting position for a 410 A-Main — but suffered brake dramas before the start.

Quick repairs saw Waters rush to the grid, but he dropped to sixth during the race — and that’s where he finished.

Regardless, it was a major step up from the previous night’s results, leaving Waters’ Chief Racing squad elated.

"Just stepped it up on last night,” Waters said.

"Time trialled quickest which was really cool, it set up our night and had a good run through the heat to get second from sixth.

"Started third in the final… I dropped a few spots at the start but got a few back through the race.

"Cool to be running with the good guys. Had a straight car, it's getting better and I'm getting better; we're making progress."

The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle on March 10-12.

Tickets are on sale on Supercars.com and Ticketek.com.
