Cam Waters heads to Symmons Plains determined to right the wrongs of his trying 2021 Tasmania weekend.

Waters, who is sixth in the championship, failed to convert two poles last year to victory at Symmons Plains.

The Tickford Racing driver swept the Sunday poles, but could finish no higher than fourth.

He was on for a podium late in the finale, but was demoted by both Shell Fords in the closing laps.

It came after he fell into the clutches of Shane van Gisbergen in the opening two races.

Waters would return to victory lane in Tailem Bend and Townsville later in the year, but had he managed his tyres in Tasmania, it could have happened sooner.

"I’m looking forward to getting back on track in Tassie," the 27-year-old said.

"Obviously last year we had really good one lap pace and scored a couple poles, but we didn’t have any trophies to show for it.

"So there’s a bit of unfinished business there for us. We’ve learned quite a bit and changed quite a bit since we raced there last year.

"It’s always important to get on top of the car on these sprint weekends so hopefully we can start the weekend strong and carry that momentum through.

"If we can start off the weekend in the window I think we’ll be in for a strong weekend."

Tickford is on a barren run in Tasmania; the team last won at the 2.41km Symmons Plains circuit in 2012.

Four-way drama on last lap

For Tickford boss Tim Edwards, the introduction of the new Super Soft will offer another litmus test for his team.

"We had some strong points there last year but also found some weaknesses which we’ve worked hard to address in the last 12 months," Edwards said.

"The Super Soft tyre being used there adds a whole other element to things.

"It should be a fascinating weekend and hopefully one we find ourselves on top of starting on Saturday."
