Prodrive Racing Australia have continued to show their top form this morning at the Castrol EDGE Townsville 400, with Cameron Waters storming to his eighthcareer pole in the V8 Supercars Dunlop Series.

The PRA tyro completed only five laps to beat out Jack Le Brocq for the top spot, taking pole position with a 1min14.68 on his second flyer.

"It's good to start from pole position for the race," Waters said.

"Hopefully we can push on and continue our form."

Only 0.094secs separated second-quickest Le Brocq from Waters, while Garry Jacobson's Holden managed to secure the third spot on the grid.

Paul Dumbrell trailed his Eggleston Motorsport teammate in the times, ending the session fourth-fastest ahead of Chris Pither in fifth.

Hazelwood will start this afternoon's 21-lapper from sixth after this morning's 15-minute qualifying session, ahead of Ant Pedersen and James Golding.

Shae Davies and Simon Evans rounded out the top ten as they make their Townsville debuts this weekend.

While Jesse Dixon set the pace in Group 1's qualifying, his quickest time was enough to salvage 12th fastest.

Paul Morris was 14th quickest ahead of his prodigies Bryce Fullwood and Renee Gracie in 21st and 22nd.

Brad Jones Racing's Macauley Jones and Josh Kean will begin the race in 16th and 17th, while their fellow stablemate Andrew Jones has been withdrawn from the weekend.

The first race for the V8 Supercars Dunlop Series at the Castrol EDGE Townsville 400 will kick off at 2.20pm this afternoon.
