Tickford Racing has confirmed Cam Waters will end his Supercars career in pursuit of a new ride Stateside.

Waters will depart the Ford team at season’s end and will shift to Professional Bull Riders in 2023.

It comes after Waters has tested his skills in speedways around Victoria.

The Mildura product is closing on 200 Supercars races, but he will go no further.

"It’s been a pretty well hidden secret, but I’m pleased to announce that in 2023 I’m going to the US to go pro bull riding, and obviously ending my Supercars career," Waters said.

"I’m super pumped to get to the states, get on a few bulls, and hopefully win a belt buckle.

"I’ve really got to thank Monster Energy for making it happen, they’ve got such a variety of sports that they’re in, and for me to jump from Supercars to bull riding is pretty awesome, I couldn’t do it without them.”

Waters won the 2015 Super2 crown with Tickford, and has raced full-time in the main game since 2016.

Team boss Tim Edwards was “pretty disappointed” with the news.

"You know, we’ve invested in him over the last six or seven years, and we’ve achieved a lot together,” Edwards said.

"Of course you always want to achieve more and we had the goal of winning a championship together, but he’s decided to go sit on cows instead of sitting in a race car, so pretty disappointing for us as a team.”

Waters acknowledged Edwards’ disappointment, but couldn’t hide his excitement at his new venture.

Furthermore, Waters cited Edwards as his inspiration for the move.

“I think Tim took it okay, he’s the one that probably really started this,” Waters said.

"He started talking about ‘Yellowstone’ and I started to watch it, then I fell in love with going to America and doing that, but yeah, I think Tim and the team have taken it pretty well.”

Waters will continue his 2022 Supercars campaign at the Beaurepaires Melbourne 400 next weekend.

Happy April Fools’ Day!
