Cam Waters has secured his best speedway result just two weeks out from the first Supercars round of 2022.

The Tickford Racing driver started from pole position for the A-Main in Moama on Saturday, and finished second.

  • The hidden benefit of Waters' busy speedway summer

It marked Waters’ best speedway result in just his second summer in Sprint Cars.

It was also the best result for Waters’ squad, Chief Racing.

Waters in action

Waters clocked his second quick time in as many weeks and started from pole for his first heat.

The five-time Supercars race winner scored heat victory and earned passage to the A-Main following a last-to-third performance in the second heat.

The Mildura-born driver lost the lead early in the A-Main, but regained it shortly afterwards after the leader pulled off the circuit.

However, a resurgent Brenton Farrer demoted Waters to second, where he stayed when a crash called the race short by four laps.

Another quick time

Regardless, a main big stage podium delighted both driver and team.

"Had a really good night in the 360 car. First time here in Moama,” Waters said.

"Was great to get quick time, and won my first heat from pole. My next heat started from eighth and moved up to third, which put me on pole for the A-Main and equal points for the night.

"Had a really sick race. Missed the start, so I was running second for most of the race.

Podium celebrations

"Got the lead back, then the track went away and Brenton Farrer had a bit more pace than me and passed for the lead.

"Had a mega race and super stoked to get my first podium."

Waters will tackle pre-season testing aboard his Tickford Mustang at Winton on Tuesday.

He will return to his Sprint Car at his Mildura home track next weekend.
