Cam Waters believes the Townsville running will be mostly influenced by the Super Soft tyre stints.

Drivers will be armed with a single set of Super Soft tyres in each 88-lap race.

The majority of the races, and all practice and qualifying sessions, will be completed on the Hard compound.

Friday practice offered little in the way of how the Super Soft will perform.

However, given the performance of the Hard tyre, Waters is adamant the softer compound will dictate the end result.

“I don’t think you’ll see a lot of passing on the Hard tyre,” said Waters, who was second quickest in Practice 2.

“It’s pretty sketchy in all the brake zones; to ask more of it, it won’t give it to you.

“When we put the Super Softs on, that’s when the race will come alive.

“Hopefully my car’s going to be good on the tyre, that’ll be key.”

Shane van Gisbergen said it will take bravery on who pulls the trigger with the Super Soft.

Conversely, Hard tyre running may present more errors as drivers battle for track position.

“You’ll see people locking up into Turn 2,” Waters said of the Hard compound.

“It is harder to get the Hard tyre up than it is the Soft or Super Soft.

“That’ll be a challenge, but it’s the same for everyone.”

Cars will return on Saturday for qualifying at 9:50am local time.
