Cameron Waters has made a solid return to Sprint Car action in Warrnambool, just weeks after the 2021 Supercars season ended in Bathurst.

Waters finished second alongside James Moffat at the Repco Bathurst 1000 on December 5.

The Mildura-born driver ended the 2021 season fifth overall, 561 points behind champion Shane van Gisbergen.

The Tickford Racing driver will return to speedways to sharpen his skillset ahead of the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship.

Waters, 27, took to the Premier Speedway in Warrnambool on Saturday and fell just short of the A-Main final.

Waters went seventh fastest in the time trials in the 48-strong field.

He required a top-four finish in the B-Main, but finished 12th following a skirmish with lapped traffic.

"Great to be back hanging it out on the Warrnambool clay in the Chief Racing McQuinn Electrical Sprint Car," he posted.

"Had a fast car but tripped over a high line runner while trying to make it into the A-Main.

"A BIG summer ahead and feeling sure we’ll be up there before too long."

James McFadden claimed the feature Max's Race victory ahead of Tate Frost, with Daniel Pestka, Jamie Veal and Jake Smith rounding out the top five.

The 13-event 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle next year. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

The 13-round draft calendar was released during the Repco Bathurst 1000 weekend.
