Cameron Waters is eyeing a repeat of his 2020 Bathurst 1000 pole after reaching Saturday’s Top Ten Shootout.

Waters qualified fifth on Friday, and will be sixth man out in Saturday afternoon’s one-lap dash.

In four sessions through to qualifying, the #6 Monster Energy Tickford Mustang had been a fixture at the front.

Waters topped Practices 1 and 3, before cruising through into Saturday’s shootout.

A year ago, Waters dropped in a Bathurst shootout record to finish second. It was Tickford’s sixth Great Race pole, leaving the team one short of the record.

“It was a pretty good day for us, Moff’s been on it since the start so we’ve just kept doing our thing and trying to make the car better each session,” said Waters, who also scored a Bathurst pole in February.

"Qualifying was pretty good, I had a huge moment on my last lap going down the hill so that hurt us a bit, but it’s always great to make the shootout.

"Obviously Saturday went pretty well for us last year, so we’ll tune up the car overnight and try to do it again tomorrow.”

Tickford teammate Jack Le Brocq snuck into the shootout at the expense of the retiring Jamie Whincup.

James Courtney and co-driver Thomas Randle will start Sunday’s Repco Bathurst 1000 from 16th place.

"It was a really good day for us, to make the shootout’s unreal,” said Le Brocq, who will drive for Matt Stone Racing in 2022.

"We’ve just kept chipping away at the car and making gains, and I was able to put a good enough lap together when it mattered to just squeak into the 10.

"It’s obviously been a pretty tough year for us, so it felt good to deliver that for the boys.

"There’s still a bit more we can get out of the car, so we’ll work on it tonight and try to pick up a few spots in the shootout tomorrow.

"I can’t wait, it’s going to be really cool to have that lap of the mountain to myself."

Supercars will return to the track on Saturday for Practice 5 at 10:15am AEDT. Click here to view the track schedule.

Every session of the event will be broadcast live on Foxtel (Fox Sports 503) and streamed on Kayo.

The Seven Network will provide live free to air coverage of the event. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
