Percat reflects on Walkinshaw homecoming

Nick Percat is beginning to feel the weight of his return to the Walkinshaw fold.

Percat’s 2022 livery was revealed on Wednesday, with the 2011 Bathurst winner to race the all-new #2 Mobil 1 NTI Racing Commodore.

It marks the first new team for Percat since he arrived at Brad Jones Racing in 2017.

The 33-year-old will partner Chaz Mostert at the team, which scored Bathurst victory just three months ago.

Having seen his new car, Percat is champing at the bit to begin the latest chapter of his career.

"To see the Mobil 1 NTI Racing car in the flesh, I think it looks absolutely amazing, and it all feels very real now," Percat said.

"I’ve had some pretty cool history with Mobil 1 last time I was here, so it’s great to be representing them again.

"To have NTI step up as well with the team and show their support in me and the team is really cool.

"It’s fantastic to see such a strong show of support from the entire partner group.”

Percat was a long-time driver in the Walkinshaw fold, and famously won the Great Race for the Holden Racing Team on debut in 2011.

Fast forward 11 years, and Percat is regarded as one of the best racers on the grid.

However, 2022 provides the 253-race veteran with his best chance yet at a title.

Fittingly, it comes in an environment he called home for a decade, albeit nearly a decade ago.

"The family type atmosphere from the top down is something that was really obvious from the moment I walked back through the doors,” he said.

"I can’t wait for that first test day, it’s going to be really important as a team to get to know each other better and start to gel.

"Everything to this point has been great, so I just can’t wait to put the helmet on and roll out there.”

The new-look car will hit the track for the first time next Tuesday at Winton Motor Raceway.

Percat will make his full Walkinshaw Andretti United debut in Sydney in two weeks’ time. Event tickets are on sale now.
