Andre Heimgartner’s R&J Batteries Racing car will carry volcanic-inspired Indigenous artwork in Darwin.

Brad Jones Racing has revealed the livery Heimgartner will race at next week’s Merlin Darwin Triple Crown.

It comes after BJR took the covers off Jack Smith’s SCT Logistics entry, which features reconciliation themes.

Young emerging Indigenous artist Jedess Hudson was tasked with the artwork on the #8 Commodore.

Hudson, who originates from Cairns in Far North Queensland, created the artwork 'Lava Lines’.

‘Lava Lines’ is centred on the Undara Lava Tubes, which contain the remains of the Earth’s longest flow of lava originating from a single volcano.

The artwork, which took inspiration from R&J Batteries, is located near the car’s sill and along the bonnet lines.

The livery was brought to life by 3M Films and PPG.

Hudson is a descendant of the Ewamian and Western Yalanji people.

She is the daughter of renowned North Queensland artist and musician David Hudson.

Father and daughter recently collaborated and exhibited 'Ancient Voices – New Beginnings’.

'Ancient Voices – New Beginnings’ offers a mix of David’s traditional storytelling style with Jedess’ contemporary perspective.

The livery will be raced by Kiwi Heimgartner, who has claimed two podiums in the last two rounds.

"The Undara Lava Tubes are situated on Ewamian country, which contain the remains of the Earth’s longest flow of lava originating from a single volcano,” Hudson explains.

"Volcanic activity formed these tubes over 190,000 years ago.

"The red and orange represents the journey lines as the lava travels and flows across the land.

"Each lava tube varies in length, size, and dimension with its own unique story.

"The dots embody the lava imprint within the tubes and the Lava flow contain powerful energy; the natural embodiment of the products that R&J Batteries are known for today."

R&J Batteries Director Ray Robson added: "Andre has had some great results in the last two rounds at Perth and in Winton.

"We feel the Lava Lines artwork Ms Hudson has designed not only fits the R&J Batteries brand but also sits well with the form Andre has been bringing to the track.

"We are proud to be part of the Supercars Indigenous Round in Darwin.

"The car looks fantastic, and it is such a great reminder of the journey we are making as a nation toward reconciliation and recognition of our First Peoples."

Heimgartner is 12th in the championship, and is just 20 points from the top 10.

The 2022 season will resume in Darwin on June 17-19. Purchase your tickets now.
