Shane van Gisbergen has been penalised over his Bathurst qualifying clash with Macauley Jones.

Van Gisbergen collided with Jones in the dying seconds of qualifying.

The series leader tagged Jones into a spin on approach to the Dipper.

Jones made heavy contact with the outside wall, with his #96 Commodore sustaining heavy damage.

Van Gisbergen has received a three-spot grid penalty.

The penalty will be applied following Saturday's ARMOR ALL Top Ten Shootout.

Van Gisbergen qualified fourth, and will be seventh driver out in the Shootout.

It ensures van Gisbergen cannot claim a second Bathurst pole, and first since 2014.

Van Gisbergen and Garth Tander cannot start higher than fourth, and could start as low as 13th for Sunday's 161-lap race.

The stewards report reads: “Following a DRD Investigation and an admission by Car 97, Shane van Gisbergen, of a breach of Schedule B2, Article 2.1.1 (Careless Driving) for the Incident involving contact with Car 96, Macauley Jones, at Turn 13, the Stewards imposed a 3 Grid Spot penalty in Race 30 for Car 97, Shane van Gisbergen/Garth Tander.”

It wasn't the only indiscretion on Friday, with Jake Kostecki fined over a red flag breach.

Kostecki was fined $10,000, with $5000 suspended, after he was clocked at 220km/h on Conrod Straight.

The Tickford Racing driver made the breach during a stoppage for Will Brown's crash.

Kostecki was aware of Brown's crash, which occurred at Reid Park.

Co-drivers will tackle Practice 5 at 10:20am local time on Saturday.

The ARMOR ALL Top Ten Shootout will commence at 5:05pm.
