New track surfaces have impressed series leader Shane van Gisbergen, who has inspected ongoing works in Adelaide.

Van Gisbergen made the trip to the South Australian capital just days after winning the Repco Bathurst 1000.

The series leader took out his second Great Race on Sunday with Garth Tander, who won his fifth.

Four days on from his record-breaking triumph, van Gisbergen touched down in Adelaide.

The VALO Adelaide 500 will conclude the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship.

The track, which made its debut in 1985 with Formula One, has undergone major resurfacing works.

More than 70 per cent of the circuit has been resurfaced, from the braking zone at Turn 9 through to the entry of Turn 7.

It will likely contribute to the fastest lap times in the event's Supercars history.

Van Gisbergen holds the practice/qualifying record, a 1:19.295s set back in 2017.

The VALO Adelaide 500 RETURNS

The current series leader won in Adelaide in 2013, 2017 and 2018.

The 33-year-old could clinch a third drivers' title on the Gold Coast, and title would become official in Adelaide.

It would prove a fitting farewell to Holden, which will depart Supercars at season's end.

The VALO Adelaide 500 will also host a special Holden cavalcade to help send off the famous Australian brand.

"We have had some past experiences at this track but it will be completely different now, there are no bumps and hopefully more grip," he said.

"It is a completely new surface, it looks beautiful and we can't wait to race here in a couple of months' time.

"It will be a different feeling being the championship finale, the drivers will be more race fit.

"The biggest thing for us is seeing the enthusiasm in town already.

"Seeing how much the people of Adelaide have missed the race and how excited they are for it to return.

Holden to be farewelled in Adelaide

"This was one of my favourite races of the year and to be back here again is going to be great.

"We haven't done many street circuits in recent years and we can come race here again with the people and see so many fans around on the street."

The South Australian Government also confirmed Thursday that free public transport for valid ticket holders will be available throughout the entire duration of event.

All ticket holders can travel for free on any Adelaide Metro bus, train or tram from first to last service, by showing a valid VALO Adelaide 500 ticket for that day.

Those aged under 12 years that receive free entry to the track will not need to present a ticket when boarding.

South Australian Treasurer Stephen Mullighan added: "We want to make it as easy and affordable to attend as possible.

"We’ve already dialled back ticket prices 10 years, and providing free public transport is another great incentive.

"The event shuttle service will make it even more convenient for fans to get around and take in all the action of the best touring car race in the world."

Tickets for the VALO Adelaide 500 now on sale via Ticketek and Supercars.com.

The 2022 season will continue at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 on October 28-30.
